Hi everyone!
I'd like to introduce you to Blitz, one of two playable characters in Skyguard, a steampunk action game developed by BYU Center for Animation's class of 2025. She's my first ever character to make it through a full game studio pipeline!
I had the amazing opportunity to serve as the Lead Character Artist on Skyguard, overseeing the creation of all characters, weapons, and enemies. My role was to ensure that all character models and props maintained a high visual fidelity while also staying within the technical constraints of our budget. For Blitz, I handled all modeling and shading, with the exception of the mask and gun, which were created by the talented Landon Warnick and Rylan Chamberlain, respectively.
Another part of my role was being able to work closely with our small but incredible team of concept artists, whose work was essential in bringing Blitz and the rest of the game's cast to life. One of our biggest creative challenges was "putting the punk in steampunk"--finding the right balance between the refined elegance of Victorian fashion with the raw edge of punk rock. Going too Victorian made them feel like vampires, while going too punk made them feel either too cyberpunk, or too apocalyptic.
